SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team put forth a late rally in its Friday night dual meet with Clarion, but the Raiders came up short in dropping a 112-93 decision to the Golden Eagles in competition from Donald N. Miller Pool inside Heiges Field House.
 
Shippensburg won six of the 11 events contested on the night but had fallen behind by double digits at the meet's midway point. SU got within two points of Clarion entering the final two events before the Golden Eagles pulled away for the victory.
 
The Raiders compiled 10 performances that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying standard. Senior Claire Koons was a double winner on the night, claiming gold in the 50-yard freestyle (25.42 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (55.68 seconds).
 
Senior Carly Alvarado won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.89, while freshman Tomomi Nakano won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:11.22. Alvarado was third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:14.90.
 
Freshman Olivia Guthy had a pair of strong distance swims – winning the 500-yard freestyle with a strong finish and time of 5:26.04 after taking second in the 1,000-yard freestyle on a time of 11:16.58. Fellow freshman Bri Joll stepped up with a win in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 2:19.24.
 
Other PSAC cuts on the night included Nakano completing the 50-yard freestyle in 25.78 seconds and junior Gracee Tothero finishing the 200-yard IM in 2:17.66 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:31.56.
