The Shippensburg University men's swimming team was back in action Friday and came up just short in a dual meet against fellow Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent Edinboro, dropping a 104-99 decision to the Fighting Scots from McComb Fieldhouse.
Shippensburg was back in the pool Friday morning just 16 hours after completing a Thursday night dual meet at Gannon. The Raiders responded with five individual victories on the day and narrowly missed out on a couple of relay wins.
"We came up just a bit short today, but the guys that swam for us swam really tough," head coach
Tim Verge said. "I thought we had good strategy in our races and the intensity level was very high."
Freshman
Hunter Keck won both of his individual events, touching the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.33 seconds and first in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.58 seconds.
Sophomore
Jeff Beyer claimed victory in a pair of events for the second straight day, continuing his proficiency in distance freestyle events. Beyer won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.45 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:57.22.
Freshman
Eric Zimmerman also exceled in his distance swims on the day, winning the 1000-yard freestyle by more than 22 seconds with a time of 10:15.15 and placed second to Beyer in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:59.21.
Sophomore
Nick Bloom took second in both the 200-yard IM (2:02.72) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.31), pacing the Raiders in each event. Senior
Quinton Beck paced the Raiders in the 200-yard breaststroke, swimming 2:20.00.
Freshman
Joe Deemer completed the 200-yard butterfly in 2:01.86, finishing second in the event, and notched another conference cut in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.18.
The meet concluded with sophomore
Adam Fox, sophomore
Wendell Banks, Zimmerman and junior
Shane Kaliszewski completing the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:32.21.
"A couple of small tactical things could have made a difference in the meet; we will need to work on that for PSACs, but I feel good about their willingness to push themselves and compete," Verge said. "It was a fun weekend with this group of young men."
Shippensburg returns to action Saturday, January 27 at Navy.
