The Shippensburg University women's basketball team traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia on Saturday afternoon to compete in an exhibition at Division I opponent Liberty. The host Flames defeated the Raiders, 105-43.
Freshman
Ariel Jones led the Raiders with 13 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Jones also had three assists. Senior
Victoria Blackburn had seven points, two rebounds and an assist. Freshman
Jazzie Orth had a strong effort with nine points and four rebounds.
Liberty used a 15-1 run over a 3:19 stretch late in the first quarter to establish its large lead that it would not relinquish. The Flames took advantage of foul trouble on the Raider post players, as freshmen
Kryshell Gordy,
Ireland Pelletier and Orth were all whistled for multiple fouls in the first 7:30 of play.
Gordy finished with five points and three rebounds. Redshirt-sophomore
Gabriela Blackburn added four points and two assists. Senior
Kristin McGeough had two points and led the Raiders with five rebounds. Freshman
Kasey Engle had four of SU's 10 assists in the game.
SU had an uncharacteristic performance at the free-throw line, finishing just 12-of-23 (52 percent) at the charity stripe.
The game does not count in the standings for the Raiders, but it is included as an official game for Liberty (4-5).
Shippensburg returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Shepherd for its final game before the holiday break.
