SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team closed out its home schedule with a setback against Shepherd in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action Wednesday evening at Heiges Field House, 73-56.
Shippensburg (3-24, 2-18 PSAC) freshman
Kiara Hardy stuffed the stat sheet on her way to her first career double-double. She finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals to pace the Raider attack.
A strong defensive start and steady, consistent offense allowed Shepherd (11-14, 9-11) to jump ahead early and win handily. The Rams held the Raiders to just 17.6 percent from the field (3-of-17) in the first quarter and without a point in the final 5:17 of the frame.
Offensively, Shepherd shot better than 50 percent from the field in all four quarters, converting 51.9 percent of their overall attempts (28-of-54) and 52.6 percent from three-point range (10-of-19) for the game.
Shippensburg out-rebounded Shepherd 38-to-32 and had an 11-to-2 edge in second chance points, but that advantage was offset by 22 Raider turnovers.
The visitors had six players score eight or more points, including four in double figures. They were led by forward Lamaria Estridge's 14 points and six rebounds.
Melana Eyer netted a team-high 12 points, aided by a 2-for-3 night from beyond the arc. She also contributed three assists and two steals.
Playing in her final career home game,
Makayla Foddrell nearly recorded her third straight double-double, finishing with nine points and eight rebounds.
Abbie Johns added eight points and three assists.
Shippensburg will conclude its season Saturday at Lock Haven at 1 p.m.
