The Shippensburg University wrestling team took three decisions from No. 4 Pittsburgh-Johnstown through the first six weight classes Wednesday night inside Sports Center but ultimately came up short, dropping a 26-9 dual meet to the Mountain Cats.

Shippensburg (12-7) was tied 9-9 with UPJ (15-2) heading into the 174-pound bout thanks to a 4-1 decision at 133 for redshirt-freshman Cameron Throckmorton, a 7-2 decision at 157 for senior John Lindquist and a 5-4 overtime victory at 165 pounds by sophomore Neal Grudi.

The Mountain Cats took the final four weight classes, including two by major decision and one by forfeit, to win their 14th straight dual meet.

Of the four bouts Wednesday that featured a head-to-head matchup between regionally-ranked wrestlers, SU won two and UPJ won two.

Throckmorton's 4-1 decision came over reigning All-American Dave Fogle. It improved Throckmorton's season record to 15-3 overall and 12-1 in dual meets. He remains ranked third in Super Region 1 at 133 pounds while Fogle is fifth.

Grudi's overtime victory was also a battle of regionally-ranked foes, as he defeated Keith Ryan – the region's No. 2 seed. The win improved Grudi, the region's No. 5 seed at 157 pounds, to 13-4 overall and 5-1 at 165 pounds.

Lindquist's victory at 157 pounds was his fifth in his last six bouts. He enters the regular season finale with a 10-8 overall record.

Sophomore Dereck Enders, ranked sixth in the region at 125 pounds, dropped a 3-1 decision to Evan Link, the region's No. 4 seed. Senior Cody Myers, the region's No. 5 seed at 141 pounds, lost 4-3 to Dave Cawley, who is ranked second in the region and seventh in the country.

The Raiders return home Friday for a 7 p.m. Senior Night matchup against Kutztown from Heiges Field House. Before the match, SU will honor its eight seniors: Tyler Erdman, Dan Estricher, Wes Heavener, Chris Kochinsky, Lindquist, Myers, Jacob Nale and Kenny Stank.
