RECAP: Volleyball celebrates Senior Day with a sweep over Lock Haven, 3-0

SU honored Bauer, McCormick and Schultz in a pre-match ceremony

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team used early dominance on Senior Day to sweep Lock Haven in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House. Set scores were 25-19, 25-19 and 25-18.

Shippensburg (13-14, 6-6 PSAC East) had one Raider with double-digit kills as junior Rachel Verhoef posted her 13th double-digit kill output this season with 10 kills. Verhoef also had a career-high four aces and hit .467 from the floor. Freshman Emily Gardner had nine kills and seven digs.

Freshman setter Lily Letchworth had 26 assists and a career-high three aces. Freshman libero Kelsie Baus led the Raiders in digs with 14 digs and three assists.

Lock Haven (3-19, 1-11 PSAC East) had one player with double-digit kills. SU's nine aces and 39 kills made the difference against the Bald Eagles.

Shippensburg featured its three seniors in the opening set, as Lydia Bauer, Syera McCormick and Joelle Schultz all contributed points. All three women were also honored in a pre-match ceremony.

In the opening set, the Raiders went on an eight-point service run, until a Bald Eagle timeout stopped the run. LHU went on a 9-4 run to close the gap, but a kill from Bauer prevented the Bald Eagles from a comeback. A service ace from McCormick concluded it for SU.

The Raiders dominated early in the second set with the score at 11-4. The Bald Eagles went on an 8-2 run to get the deficit to one point. A kill and a service ace from Verhoef sealed the second set.

In the third set, the score was tied at 9-9 before the Raiders went on a 9-2 run to stay ahead. Three consecutive aces from Verhoef gave the Raiders a match point. An attack error from Lock Haven secured the win.

Shippensburg will be on the road for its last two games of regular season, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday at Millersville.
