SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team honored its six seniors in advance of its final regular-season home dual meet on Friday night, but the Raiders dropped the dual meet to visiting Clarion, 124-81, from Donald N. Miller Pool inside Heiges Field House.
 
"We had some great swims on the women's side – some people really stepped up," head coach Tim Verge said. "We had some super swims without a lot of recovery in between. They battled, and did well racing down the stretch at the ends of races."
 
Before the proceedings, Shippensburg honored seniors MacKenna Angert, Erin Fife, Nollaig Noll, Rhyan Rodriguez, Sarah Strause and Jeanette Welch.
 
Fife won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.50 and placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.67 seconds), notching Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) cuts in both events. Welch placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.40) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (55.41 seconds), satisfying the conference standard in the latter.
 
Junior Stephanie O'Toole won three individual events, completing the 200-yard IM in 2:09.05, the 100-yard freestyle in 53.93 seconds and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.98. Like O'Toole, sophomore Gracee Tothero also notched PSAC cuts in the 200 IM (2:17.73) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.89). Freshman Mari Reott met the PSAC standard in the 100-yard backstroke by swimming 1:01.89.
 
In total, SU had nine individual swims that satisfied the conference qualifying standard and compiled 13 individual Top 3 finishes.
 
"We have to clean up our finishes at the bigger meets, but the effort was definitely there tonight," Verge said.
 
Shippensburg returns to action in two weeks for one of its most important meets of the regular season, the three-day Patriot Invitational hosted by George Mason University on November 16-18.
