SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team notched six more conference-qualifying cuts on Saturday as it wrapped up a two-day home tri-meet, defeating Southern Connecticut State 222-107 but falling to West Chester, 220-104, in competition from Donald N. Miller Pool.
 
Shippensburg (2-1) received another splendid outing from junior Stephanie O'Toole, who won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:24.74 and the 200-yard individual medley (IM) in a sterling 2:06.53. O'Toole broke her own pool record in the 200 IM by five seconds after originally setting it 10 days ago against IUP on a time of 2:11.13.
 
Freshman Madeleine Verby began the day by finishing second in the 1,650-yard freestyle for a conference cut of 18:33.59. Sophomore Grace Tothero completed the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:35.93.
 
Senior Erin Fife finished the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.69, and junior Carly Alvarado touched the wall at the end of the 200-yard backstroke in 2:16.39 – both performances also satisfying the league qualifying standards.  
 
Alvarado, O'Toole, senior Rhyan Rodriguez and Verby teamed up to place second in the 200-yard medley relay on a time of 1:53.73. SU's fastest 400-yard freestyle relay of the day featured Fife, senior Jeanette Welch, Verby and Alvarado – finishing in 3:48.93.
 
Shippensburg returns to action in two weeks, traveling to California (Pa.) for an Oct. 27 tri-meet at 5 p.m. with Fairmont State and the host Vulcans.
