The Shippensburg University wrestling team split the 10 bouts of its PSAC dual meet with East Stroudsburg on Tuesday night but managed bonus points in three of its wins, including a pin by junior
Cameron Throckmorton, as it defeated the Warriors, 20-16, at Koehler Fieldhouse.
Â
Shippensburg (1-6, 1-2 PSAC) notched its first win of the year with the help of Throckmorton's team-leading seventh victory of the year. Throckmorton, now 7-0, achieved his second victory by fall this season after putting Eric Januszkiewicz on his back in 2:35. He has recorded bonus points in five of his wins.
Â
Junior
Mark Lentz, fresh off a victory by fall over Gannon, pitched a shutout to record his sixth win in his last seven matches. In his 8-0 major decision, Lentz notched a takedown and a three-point near fall in the second period before adding a two-point near fall in third period to augment a 3:09 riding time advantage. Â Â

Three of SU's five wins came from freshmen.
Colin Ochs, who had to wrestle up one weight class, scored an 11-3 major decision for his third win of the year. Ochs got a takedown and overcame a reversal with one of his own to build a 4-2 lead after one period. After starting the second on defense, Ochs notched a reversal to build his lead. His additional third-period takedowns complemented a 3:03 riding time advantage.

Freshman
Mike Hafer returned the lineup and once again showcased his winning ways, gutting out a 3-2 decision over Marius Kola that improved his season record to 6-4. Hafer scored a first-period takedown and ultimately scored the win due to a 2:05 riding time advantage.
Â
Fellow freshman
Hunter Fenk notched his first collegiate victory with a 4-1 decision at 174 pounds. Fenk got a takedown in the first period with just about one minute to go, and then rode opponent Dan Ingulli for the entire second period. On defense in the third period, Fenk notched an escape and finished with a 2:32 riding time advantage for the win.
Â
The most touted match of the night was at 197 pounds between SU sophomore
Jalal Paige, ranked atop the region and No. 7 in Division II, and ESU sophomore Tyler Richardson, ranked fourth in the region. Paige scored two first-period takedowns and had amassed a 1:08 riding time advantage after the opening frame.
Â
He scored a reversal in the second period to lead 6-2 but then needed an injury timeout, and Richardson scored a two-point near fall and got a stalling point after starting on offense after the injury reset. At neutral in the third period, Richardson scored a takedown with 1:01 remaining to take the 7-6 lead and added his final point on a riding time advantage.
