Editor's Note: For the first time since 2009 (when USTFCCCA yearly history is readily available), a school has swept the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region's major awards for men's outdoor track & field. Shippensburg's Gabriel Lewis was named the 2026 Atlantic Region Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year; Gian Greggo was named the 2026 Atlantic Region Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year; Dave Osanitsch was named the 2026 Atlantic Region Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year, and Doug Knol was named the 2026 Atlantic Region Men's Outdoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year.
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University junior
Gabriel Lewis was named the 2026 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year on Monday afternoon as the Raiders swept the organization's major awards for the men's outdoor season.
Lewis ran 10.03 seconds in the 100 meters on April 16 at the Midweek PR Bonanza at Seth Grove Stadium to become the second-fastest sprinter in the history of NCAA Division II (with a legal wind reading), trailing only West Texas A&M's Ben Azamati. The performance is the fifth fastest in Division II history, trailing only four of Azamati's performances (9.90, 9.96, 9.97, 10.02) that were recorded in 2021-22.
Having become the all-time 100-meter record holder for the Atlantic Region, Lewis won the 2026 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship in the 100 meters two weeks later with a time of 10.22 seconds. He entered the national championships as the No. 1 seed and earned All-America Second Team honors by virtue of a ninth-place time of 10.51 seconds.
In the 200 meters, Lewis recorded a lifetime best of 21.06 seconds during prelims of the PSAC Championships that ranks him second in school history in the event behind current teammate
Ke'Aune Green. Lewis earned All-PSAC honors in the 200 with a third-place time of 21.30 seconds in the finals.
As the second leg of Shippensburg's 4x100-meter relay, Lewis earned All-America First Team honors as the Raiders were the runner-up at this year's national championships – placing second with a time of 39.66 seconds.
Ni'male Greenwood, Lewis,
Lavar Jackson and Green broke the 40-second mark in four consecutive races to conclude the season – marking the only four times that any PSAC school has broken 40 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay. The group reset the all-time PSAC record to 39.61 seconds during prelims at the conference championships.
Lewis and his teammate
Gian Greggo become just the second duo in the 17-year history of the USTFCCCA regional awards to hail from the same school. In 2014, Saint Augustine's Roxroy Cato was the Atlantic Region Track Athlete of the Year while Dejon Wilkinson was the Atlantic Region Field Athlete of the Year.
Overall, Lewis is just the second Raider to ever be named the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. He now accompanies Jonathan Stiles, who in 2019 entered the national championships as the No. 1 seed in the 400-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 50.90 seconds.
