Editor's Note: For the first time since 2009 (when USTFCCCA yearly history is readily available), a school has swept the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region's major awards for men's outdoor track & field. Shippensburg's Gabriel Lewis was named the 2026 Atlantic Region Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year; Gian Greggo was named the 2026 Atlantic Region Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year; Dave Osanitsch was named the 2026 Atlantic Region Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year, and Doug Knol was named the 2026 Atlantic Region Men's Outdoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year.

Doug Knol was named the 2026 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region Men's Outdoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year on Monday afternoon as the Raiders swept the organization's major awards for the men's outdoor season.
Knol, who just completed his 33rd season as Shippensburg's assistant coach for sprints and hurdles, directed a Raider group that combined for six All-America classifications at this year's NCAA Division II National Championships.
The 4x100-meter relay of
Ni'male Greenwood,
Gabriel Lewis,
Lavar Jackson and
Ke'Aune Green placed second at nationals, earning All-America First Team honors by running 39.66 seconds.
Individually, Lewis and Green earned All-America Second Team honors in the 100 meters by placing ninth and 15th respectively. Green also competed at nationals in the 200 meters, placing 17th.
During the regular season, Knol's sprinters set all-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) records in each event. Lewis's 100-meter record of 10.03 seconds made him the second-fastest sprinter in the history of NCAA Division II (with a legal wind reading), trailing only West Texas A&M's Ben Azamati. Green's personal best of 20.89 seconds in the 200 meters, set on the same day as Lewis's 100-meter record, afforded him the chance to run at nationals.
The 4x100-meter relay's top time was 39.61 seconds, achieved during prelims at the conference meet. Lewis (10.22 seconds), Green (20.96 seconds) and the 4x1 relay (39.88 seconds) each won conference championships.
Overall, Shippensburg won the 2026 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship by a 74-point margin, scoring 211.5 team points. The Raiders totaled 50 points from just the 100 and 200 meters – a sum that was higher than seven of the 13 team scores at this year's conference meet.
Per the USTFCCCA Division II #EventSquad rankings, Shippensburg entered the NCAA Championships ranked second in the nation in the 100 meters and eighth in the nation in the 200 meters.
The award is the third of Knol's career for men's outdoor track & field; he was previously honored for Atlantic Region success in 2014 and 2019. Overall, it is Knol's fifth Atlantic Region assistant coach award for outdoor track & field – he was recognized in 2021 and 2024 for his work with the SU women's team.
Knol remains the only individual in history to earn USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year awards for both men's outdoor track & field and women's outdoor track & field.
