RECAP: Volleyball sweeps Bloomsburg, 3-0

SU gets double-digit kills from Negron (13), Agbale (12) and Gardner (11)

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team defeated Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opponent Bloomsburg in straight sets Friday night at Heiges Field House. Set scores were 25-21, 25-13 and 25-18.
 
Shippensburg (12-14, 5-6 PSAC East) had three players with double-digit kills. The Raiders were led by freshman Kat Negron with her seventh double-double after totaling 13 kills and 11 digs and hitting .290 from the floor.
 
Junior Oyinda Agbale had 12 kills and hit .435 from the floor with only two errors. Freshman Emily Gardner posted double-digit kills for the 12th time this season, totaling 11 and hitting .318 from the floor. Junior Rachel Verhoef had eight kills and one block.
 
Freshman setter Lily Letchworth had 42 assists, seven digs and three kills. Freshman libero Kelsie Baus had her first collegiate start and led the Raiders with a career high of 16 digs and three assists.
  
Bloomsburg (11-14, 5-6) had players evenly spread out for kills. SU dominated the floor with 51 kills and hit .327, compared to the Huskies with 22 kills and hitting .110.

In the opening set, both teams were evenly matched and the score was tied at 20-20. The Raiders got kills from Gardner and Verhoef and an ace from freshman Maddie Clabaugh to get the lead they needed to win the set. A service error by the Huskies concluded it for SU.
 
The Raiders dominated the second set, erupting after a 9-9 tie. Verhoef served nine straight points, with Agbale having three back-to-back kills.
 
In the third set, the score was tied at 7-7 before the Raiders went on a 6-2 run to stay ahead. Five straight points from the Raiders and back-to-back kills from Agbale sealed the win.  

Shippensburg will be back at Heiges Field House at 1 p.m. Saturday for Senior Day against Lock Haven. Before the match, the team will honor seniors Lydia Bauer, Syera McCormick and Joelle Schultz.
