The Shippensburg University women's tennis team began its fall, non-championship portion of the 2018-19 season Saturday with the opening day of the Bloomsburg University Invitational held at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
 
The invitational features players from Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg and Wilkes in addition to the Raiders.
 
"With a last-minute injury and a brand new doubles and singles lineup, the team still managed to grab games today against Bloomsburg, Wilkes and ESU," head coach Lindsey Tennis said of her squad. "With a team that's half seniors and half freshmen, we are working every day to get better."
 
Senior Kaylin Gallagher competed at No. 1 singles, winning six games against Wilkes's Dasha Yakhnis and two games against Bloomsburg's Taylor Capoferri. Senior Megan Moorhead competed at No. 2 singles, winning four games against Wilkes's Dagney Markle.
 
"Kaylie competed well at No. 1, and Megan continues to show improvement as she moves up the lineup," Tennis said of her Top 2 singles players.
 
Senior Victoria Galanti won four singles games against Wilkes, while freshman Kayla Tryanski claimed four singles games against Wilkes and one against Bloomsburg.
 
Freshman Aubrey Carlin won four games in each of her matches on the day. The three doubles pairings: Gallagher-Moorhead, Galanti-Carlin, and Tryanski and freshman Casey Miller each won one game against East Stroudsburg.
 
"Today was a great day to knock off the rust and prepare for the competition to come over the next three weeks," Tennis said.
