The Shippensburg University volleyball team began a weekend excursion in West Virginia Friday with a pair of 3-1 victories at Charleston – first defeating Urbana (26-28, 25-22, 25-18, 25-19) in a neutral-site match before edging the host Golden Eagles (25-16, 23-25, 25-13, 25-20) in the nightcap.
Shippensburg (4-2) dropped the first set to Urbana before finishing the match with victories in the next three sets. The Raiders dropped the second set in its match against Charleston (1-5) but controlled the match in the first and third sets in the win.
Junior
Megan Forstburg had a strong day on defense, leading the team with 50 digs on the day to give her exactly 1,000 digs for her career. Forstburg is 281 digs shy of cracking the all-time Top 10 in SU history for the category.
Sophomore setter
Emily Hangen had an outstanding day for the Raiders, registering 95 assists, adding 50 digs and serving three aces. Senior
Morgan DeFloria was the primary beneficiary of the passing with a team-high 34 kills, swinging .222 with 23 digs.
Juniors
Samantha Webber and
Kendall Johnson each had splendid days offensively as well, registering 26 and 21 kills, respectively. Webber also thwarted the opposition's offensive attack with a team-high 10 blocks over the course of two matches, while
Kendall Johnson added seven blocks and DeFloria six.
Redshirt-senior
Courtney Malott registered 23 digs and 10 kills, to go along with a team-high four service aces on the day. Five different Raiders registered at least 10 kills on the day including junior
Gabriella Johnson, who had 17 kills and 28 digs.
