SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The 2017 NCAA Division II champion Shippensburg University field hockey team was honored at halftime of the women's basketball "Play With Hart" home game Saturday afternoon as the Raiders also witnessed the unveiling of the national championship banner that will be hung inside Heiges Field House.
Each athlete from the team present at Saturday's game was recognized at midcourt and received a small gift and were greeted by Shippensburg University president Laurie Carter, Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Roger Serr and Director of Athletics
Jeff Michaels.
In lieu of their actual championship rings, which are still being produced, the team members received a temporary ring on Saturday – evident in the pictures posted below.
The ceremony was just one part of "Play With Hart" Day at Shippensburg, an event that included a silent auction coordinated by the SU women's basketball team. All of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to Four Diamonds in the name of
Megan Hart, an SU junior field hockey player who is currently battling leukemia.
Both the SU women's and men's basketball teams wore orange "Hart Strong" shirts during pre-game warmups.
A video detailing Saturday's ceremonies will be posted above this evening.
