SU drops just its second league match of the season

The Shippensburg University volleyball team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) road match in Erie on Friday night, falling 3-1 to host Mercyhurst by set scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-27 and 21-25 in competition from the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.

Shippensburg (20-4, 10-2 PSAC) dropped just its second conference match of the season, as Mercyhurst (9-16, 4-8) hit an efficient .229 as a team with 10 more kills than the Raiders. SU swung .170 as a team – its second-lowest output in a conference match this season – as the Lakers recorded 10 blocks.

Senior Morgan DeFloria paced the Raiders with 16 kills and 19 digs, achieving her 14th double-double of the season. DeFloria enters Saturday's match needing just eight digs to become the seventh member of SU's 1,000-1,000 club for career kills and digs.

Junior Gabriella Johnson recorded her 10th double-double of the season, ripping 13 kills to complement 10 digs and a .211 hitting percentage. DeFloria and Johnson combined for 59 percent of SU's attacks (101-of-171) on the night.

Junior Samantha Webber had nine kills and hit .160, while junior Kendall Johnson had six kills and hit .190.

Junior Megan Forstburg led the Raiders with 26 digs, putting her over 1,300 digs for her career. She now ranks 10th all-time in school history for the category.

Redshirt-senior Courtney Malott notched 10 digs and served three of SU's nine aces on the night. Senior Angela Tarabrella also had three aces.

Sophomore Emily Hangen provided 42 assists, 10 digs and three kills. Fellow sophomore Alana Pergine added four kills.
