Information About the Amanda K. Strous Memorial Field Hockey Scholarship:

This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Amanda Strous, who was a beloved member of the Shippensburg University Field Hockey team, first as a player and later as an assistant coach.

Strous, as she was affectionately called, played field hockey at Shippensburg from 2007-2011, graduating with a bachelor of science in psychology and a minor in art. Amanda returned to Ship in the fall of 2012 – beginning a three-year run as an assistant coach on the field hockey team, while studying for her master's degree in mental health counseling.

In 2013, Strous was the primary assistant on the Shippensburg squad that won its first ever NCAA Division II National Championship.

Field hockey was Amanda's passion and a guiding force in her life.  It was more than just being an athlete and an assistant coach; it was the life lessons she learned which meant the most to her.

In her own words: "Ship Hockey was some of the best times of my life and it always held a special place in my heart. This program shaped me into a better person. Ship Field Hockey is more than just a team, it's family. I was proud to be a Lady Raider and that will never change. I love my best friend Ship Hockey. Please continue to find passion and meaning in your life, for without those two things, life is meaningless."

Though her own life was short, Amanda immeasurably touched the lives of her dear Ship Hockey family as well as all those she met. With this scholarship, Amanda's love of the sport, her team spirit, generosity, desire to help others and her love for all will live on in perpetuity.
