The Shippensburg University women's swimming team gets underway with the 2016-17 season this weekend by traveling to Southern Connecticut State for a tri-meet with the Owls and with West Chester. The two-day meet begins Friday night and continues Saturday morning.

SU is under the direction of 18th-year head coach Tim Verge, who is in his 19th year overall at the university. The Raiders finished fifth at the PSAC Championships last season, its best finish at the conference meet since 2011. SU has improved one place in the standings in each of the last two years.

For 2016-17, Shippensburg returns 16 swimmers -- including a legion of PSAC place-winners. The team features two seniors -- Sami Sabol and Kaytee Garcia -- along with seven impact juniors. The Raiders also boast eight sophomores and five freshmen this season.
