Box Score The Shippensburg University softball team concluded its season-opening weekend in Myrtle Beach Sunday, falling in a 4-1 decision to Le Moyne. SU split the six games it played over the past three days.
Â
Shippensburg (3-3) was able to take an early lead as sophomore
Tara Bicko doubled to lead off the game and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly by sophomore
Maddie Mulhall.
Â
Despite putting a runner on base in every inning but one, the Raiders were unable to push another run across. Bicko and senior
Taylor Pattillo both finished 2-for-3 with a double in the game. Sophomore
Anna Warfield also doubled for the Raiders.
Â
SU starting pitcher, junior
Casey Thompson, was able to escape early trouble by stranding runners in scoring position in each of the first two innings. However, Le Moyne was able to score one run in the third inning off Thompson to tie the game. She then walked the first batter in the fourth before giving way to freshman
Julia Tosti.Â
The Dolphins were able to score three runs in the fourth inning, two of which were charged to Tosti, to take a three-run lead. Le Moyne starter Toni Secreti pitched very well, allowing just a run on five hits in a complete game effort.
Â
The Raiders are back in action Saturday when they begin a three-game weekend series at Virginia State. SU will play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday. Game times are still to be determined.
