Softball announces 2027 recruiting class

Eight newcomers have arrived for the fall semester

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University head softball coach Alison Van Scyoc has confirmed the recruitment of eight student-athletes who have each agreed to attend the university and will join the Raiders for the 2026-27 season.
 
"When recruiting this class, we knew we would need a wealth of athleticism in order to maintain a competitive program," Van Scyoc said. "This class is very balanced with speed, power, pitching, and work ethic. We have already seen their commitment to growth and learning early in the fall. They are eager and hungry to make an impact, and from a coach's perspective, that is very exciting."
 
Each of the eight newcomers is a first-year collegian. Six are from Pennsylvania, one is from Maryland, and one is from Delaware.

Emma Freeman

Northwestern Lehigh High School: Totaled four varsity letters for the Tigers under head coach Kate Farber…competed at the club level with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms directed by coach Ron Hunsberger…finished a four-time All-State '4A' honoree, including First Team honors as a sophomore, junior and senior…earned four All-Area First Team classifications…graduated as the all-time leader in career strikeouts at Northwestern Lehigh (556)…compiled a career earned-run average (ERA) of 1.55…selected to the Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup as a sophomore and junior…honored with the "Class Act" award by the Morning Call in her senior season…named the Times News Player of the Year as a sophomore, the Morning Call Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore and junior, and the 2023 Morning Call Rookie of the Year…tallied 131 career hits at the plate to the tune of a .424 career batting average…amassed eight varsity letters overall, including four for basketball…was a member of the National Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society…maintained a 4.0 GPA…served as the Student Council Treasurer.

Conrad Schools of Science: Totaled multiple varsity letters for the Redwolves playing for coaches Dave Hoffman and Steve McKee…competed at the club level with PA Chaos National under coach Joe Spina…finished as a three-time All-State player in Delaware, earning First Team honors as a senior, Second Team honors as a junior and Third Team honors as a sophomore…selected three times to the All-Diamond State Athletic Conference (DSAC) First Team and overall was a four-time All-DSAC performer…completed her high school career with more than 300 strikeouts as a pitcher and more than 120 hits at the plate…compiled a career batting average of .450…was a three-year member of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), a student-led organization for future health professionals.

Fallston High School: Totaled three varsity letters in softball for the Cougars in the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference (UCBAC)…competed at the club level for Rock Gold under coaches Andy Mahony and Jen Ryan…finished as a two-time All-Conference and All-County performer, including First Team honors on both as a senior…contributed to teams that won back-to-back Class 1A regional championships as a junior and senior…ranked among the Top 10 players in the state of Maryland Class 1A in multiple offensive categories as a senior, including hits (44, first), runs (41, second), RBIs (27, fourth) and batting average (.550, sixth)…recorded a 1.456 OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) as a senior…posted a career batting average of .416 over the course of more than 250 plate appearances…compiled a .962 career fielding percentage…also earned multiple varsity letters in volleyball…was a member of the distinguished honor roll and the National Honor Society…received the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence…compiled a 4.3 GPA.

Solanco High School: Totaled four varsity letters for the Golden Mules under head coach Jason McClune…competed at the club level with PA Batbusters for coach Rick Kresley…finished as a two-time All-State Class 5A selection, earning First Team honors as a senior and Second Team honors as a junior…completed her career as a four-time Lancaster-Lebanon (LL) League All Star and a two-time team MVP…set a school record for career pitching victories (54)…totaled 545 career strikeouts as a pitcher…produced 108 career hits at the plate…maintained a 3.9 GPA…was a member of the National Honor Society…served as Student Council President…earned an AP Capstone diploma…won the American Visions National award for her artwork…also competed in unified bocce.
