The Shippensburg University women's swimming team returned from a long layoff from competition on Saturday, winning four events in a dual meet at Edinboro but dropping the overall score to the Fighting Scots, 108-97.
 
Senior Carolyn Meier won twice Saturday, claiming victory in the 100-yard freestyle (55.46 seconds) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.34). Freshman Carly Alvarado won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.23, just one second off her PR pace, while sophomore Abbey O'Neal won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.25 seconds.
 
SU also had four second-place finishes. Senior Rikki Sargent was the runner-up in the 200-yard IM (2:17.92) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.18), while freshman Lauren Ellis completed the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:39.95, while sophomore Nollaig Noll completed the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.96.
 
Shippensburg placed second in both relays. In the 200-yard medley event, Alvarado, sophomore Nicole Martorella, sophomore Erin Fife and Sargent finished up in 1:53.31. The meet-concluding 200-yard freestyle relay featured O'Neal, Meier, Ellis and Noll teaming up for a time of 1:42.63.
 
Shippensburg will have one more competition this month, heading to Navy on January 30. The PSAC Championships will be held in six weeks in York.
