The Shippensburg University tennis team completed 12 doubles and 12 singles matches Saturday on the first of two days of competition at the Bloomsburg University Fall Classic.
 
During the second round of doubles, freshmen Vanessa Ruffo and Hannah Coath teamed up for an 8-4 victory over Bloomsburg's Katelyn McGuire and Kutztown's Ashley Carter. Ruffo and Coath had another good effort in the first round of doubles, dropping an 8-6 decision to Kutztown's Kara Urland and Carter. Coath also scored six points against Urland in singles play.
 
Freshmen Angela Holmes and Sarah Lecher won 11 games between their two doubles matches, including a 9-7 tiebreaker loss in the first round of play. Junior Emilie Luttman and freshman Rachel Weber dropped a 9-8 decision in Round 1 of doubles, falling in a tiebreaker, but rallied to win a 9-8 match over East Stroudsburg in Round 2.
 
Senior Emily Cox and freshman McKensi Washabaugh formed a doubles pairing and won four games in each of their two matches.
 
Senior Brittnee Buckley and freshman Gabbie Binder formed SU's No. 1 doubles pairing, winning three games among their two matches. Freshmen Victoria Galanti and Kaylin Gallagher also formed a doubles pairing on the day.
 
In Round 3 singles, Luttman and Galanti each won four games. Washabaugh and Weber each won three games.
 
Day 2 of competition resumes at 10 a.m. Sunday with more singles play.
