The Shippensburg University women's tennis team began its 2025-26 season Friday afternoon at Bloomsburg by competing in the "Dynamic Duos" tournament held at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
 
The competition featured pairings from schools in a flighted format. The "dynamic duos" first played a doubles match, and then the four competitors broke out into singles play. If it reached a point where a duos outcome had been decided (i.e. a school's duo won the doubles match and won the first singles match), then the remaining singles match was played with Fast-4 scoring.
 
Two of SU's "dynamic duos" emerged victorious. The Raiders won five singles matches and two of the four doubles matches over the various flights.
 
A major highlight of the day occurred in the top flight, where Corinne Markovich dropped the first set of her singles match to West Liberty 0-6 before rallying to take the second set, 6-2, and ultimately the match after posting an 11-9 edge in the tiebreaker.
 
SU had two duos in the second flight. Rachel Gallagher and Brinley Orris won their "dynamic duo" by winning doubles against their opponents from Daemen, 6-2, and Orris claiming a singles victory by scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
 
Also in the second flight, Jade Miller won a Fast4 singles match against an opponent from Bloomsburg, 4-1, 4-2.
 
Taylor Maguire and Ava Kalist won their match in the third flight with a clean sweep of their opponents from West Liberty. After posting a 6-1 doubles victory, Maguire won her singles match 6-4, 6-2, while Kalist posted a 4-0, 4-0 sweep in a Fast4 match.
 
Competition resumes at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Bloomsburg.
