Senior Liz Smith broke her own school record in the shot put on Saturday, as the Shippensburg University women's indoor track & field team had strong representation in the field at the 33rd annual Millersville Metrics held inside Biemesderfer Stadium.
 
Smith finished second to West Chester's Kayla Owens but improved her personal best with a throw of 44 feet, 3 ¼ inches. Sophomore Ava Bonetti posted a throw of 40 feet, 9 inches.
 
Redshirt-freshman Tamara Ovejera won the discus and climbed atop the league rankings on a strong throw of 143 feet, 1 inch. Junior Brianna Davis threw 127 feet, 9 inches, and freshman Erin Doherty posted a top mark of 123 feet, 5 inches.
 
The javelin contingent again posted strong marks. Freshman Crystal Hartman won the event, improving her season best to 143 feet, 5 inches. Redshirt-freshman Tiffany Heisey also improved; she finished third with a throw of 132 feet, 4 inches. Sophomore Dhayana de los Santos Rodriguez also surpassed 40 meters in throwing 132 feet, 1 inch.
 
SU's pole vaulters all cleared the conference-qualifying standard. Freshmen Heather Arey and Kali Hepner cleared 10 feet, 11 ¾ inches, while sophomore Emily Wicker got over the bar at 10 feet, 6 inches.
 
Shippensburg will have its multis compete at Kutztown on Thursday and Friday while the team will travel to Bucknell on Saturday and Sunday for the Bison Outdoor Classic.
