The Shippensburg University women's outdoor track & field team had an especially effective day in the 200 meters on Friday as it began the weekend at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational hosted by George Mason University.
On a day in which Shippensburg produced 11 performances that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships qualifying standards in their respective events, three Raiders produced significant personal bests in the lone sprint contested Friday.
Izzy Slezak became the fifth woman in school history to break the 25-second mark in the 200 meters by crossing the finish line in 24.78 seconds. The PR puts Slezak in the No. 3 ranking all-time in school history for the event.
Emily Calamia put herself into the Top 10, crushing her personal best with a time of 25.14 seconds that ranks her seventh in school history.
Alyssa Wert came close to crack the Top 10 with her own PR, improving her all-time best in the 200 meters to 25.37 seconds.
Mary Stoltz impressed in the 800 meters, delivering a splendid qualifying time of 2:17.01.
Mya Trotty notched her PSAC 5K qualifier by running 18:17.01.
Lilah Drager came within three-tenths of a second of the PSAC qualifier in the 800 with a huge personal best of 2:21.33. It was Drager's ninth career outdoor 800-meter run, and she shattered her PR (set last week at Lynchburg) by nearly four full seconds.
Brooke Miller and
Anna Schaeffer delivered fantastic performances in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to comfortably obtain conference qualifiers.
Miller, competing in the steeplechase for the fifth time collegiately, ran 11:51.54 – a 31-second improvement from her previous PR set last week at Lynchburg. Schaeffer ran the steeplechase for the first time collegiately and was less than two seconds behind, crossing the finish line in 11:53.08.
Melanie Barger and
Madison Malcolm completed the 400-meter hurdles with respective times of 1:04.32 and 1:05.08.
Among the three field events contested Friday,
Ashley Laukus set a new personal best in the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 6 inches (1.68 meters), which ties for her seventh in school history, while
Lauren Bellows launched a PSAC qualifier in the hammer throw of 157 feet.
The meet resumes at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
