SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team posted the fastest time in 10-of-14 events Saturday in its first home dual meet of the season, recording 17 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) cuts in an impressive 153-107 victory over IUP in competition held at Donald N. Miller Pool.
 
Shippensburg had 20 Top-2 finishes and achieved multiple victories in reversing the result of last year's dual meet at IUP. Just one year ago, IUP defeated SU 121-79 as the Raiders won just two events. The Crimson Hawks finished third at last year's PSAC Championships, while the Raiders finished sixth.
 
On Saturday, the Raiders had two swimmers win three events. Senior Carolyn Meier was the victor in all three sprint freestyle events – the 50 (25.34), 100 (54.54) and 200 (1:57.30). Sophomore Erin Fife won the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.88), the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.50) and the 100-yard IM (1:03.12).
 
Two newcomers also won races in their home debut: freshman Carly Alvarado had the fastest time in the 200-yard backstroke, swimming 2:11.52, and freshman Lauren Ellis completed the 500-yard freestyle in 5:27.84. Sophomore Nicole Martorella, meanwhile, dazzled in the 100-yard breaststroke with a first-place time of 1:09.20.
 
Senior Rikki Sargent had multiple PSAC cuts, including a second-place time of 1:10.33 in the 100-yard breaststroke that was just behind Martorella. Freshman Sidney Owens impressed in multiple swims, including a 100-yard butterfly time (1:00.90) just two one-hundredths of a second behind Fife. Owens also took third in the 50-yard freestyle with a PSAC cut of 25.69 seconds.
 
Sophomore MacKenna Angert satisfied the league standard in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.46) and 200-yard backstroke (2:14.64). Fellow sophomore Rhyan Rodriguez surpassed the PSAC times in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.84) and 200-yard backstroke (2:16.60).
 
Owens, Meier, Ellis and Angert ended the meet by teaming up to swim the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:43.55.
 
SU continues its dual-meet portion of the schedule on Friday when it travels to Fairmont State for a 5 p.m. evening tri-meet with the Fighting Falcons and California (Pa.).
