Senior Lucy Kauffman Named 2014 PSAC Field Hockey Champion Scholar

Kauffman becomes second SU PSAC Champion Scholar to date

Shippensburg University senior Lucy Kauffman was named the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Field Hockey Champion Scholar on Friday prior to the team's semifinal matchup with Millersville.

Kauffman is a biology major with a concentration in pre-optometry. She has compiled a 3.905 cumulative grade-point-average.

She is just the second different Raider to win the award, joining softball player Hilary Lyons in 2012 and 2013.

A team captain, Kauffman leads SU with eight assists this season. She also scored the game-winning goal in the PSAC Tournament quarterfinal vs. Slippery Rock.

Kauffman was also featured in an in-depth article that ran Friday on NCAA.com profiling her experiences in NCAA Championships competition; it is linked above.

The PSAC Champion Scholar Awards, which are in their fourth year of existence, are modeled after the NCAA's Elite 89 award and honors the student-athlete with the top grade point average who is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 23 team championship finals.
