Men’s Soccer Drops Senior Day Heartbreaker in Overtime to No. 25 Bloomsburg, 2-1

Senior Fred Lucas scores for the Raiders; SU holds 8-3 advantage in corner kicks

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team kept pace with No. 25 Bloomsburg Saturday but ultimately dropped a 2-1 overtime decision on Senior Day from David See Field.

The Raiders (5-8-2, 3-6 PSAC), trailing 1-0 in the second half, scored the equalizer when one of their eight seniors, Fred Lucas, led a three-on-two break and fired a shot from the right side of the box into the back of the net in the 74th minute.

The Huskies (10-4-2, 8-2) scored the golden goal in the 94th minute and ultimately posted a 16-12 advantage in shots for the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Evan Raimist made seven stops on the day while the SU offense provided an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Bloomsburg and SU goalkeepers entered the contest ranked number two and three, respectively, in the conference in save percentage (79.5 and 79.0 percent) while BU also led the PSAC in goals-against average (0.94 per game).

Each of SU's eight losses this season has been by one goal, including two in overtime (one in double-overtime).

Before the game, SU honored its senior class that includes Lucas, Gregg Whitcomb, Derrick Roy, Aaron Archibald, Josh Gannon, Vinnie D'Innocenzo and graduate Renaldo Garcia.

The Raiders enter the final week of the regular season four points out of a playoff spot with two games to play. SU will need to win its remaining two games on the road next week while also needing some favorable decisions from other matches around the league to reach the playoffs.

The team travels to Pitt-Johnstown Friday to take on the Mountain Cats at 4 p.m.
