Furfaro’s Golden Goal Lifts Men’s Soccer Over East Stroudsburg in Overtime, 3-2

Lucas and Arnold net SU’s two first-half goals; Raiders led in corners, 9-8

The Shippensburg University men's soccer team held a two-goal first-half lead but ultimately won in overtime Saturday, 3-2, with a golden goal from sophomore Robert Furfaro against PSAC opponent East Stroudsburg from Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The Raiders (4-7-2, 2-5 PSAC) scored first in the 23rd minute when senior Fred Lucas capitalized on a pass from senior Derrick Roy.

The lead was increased to 2-0 on a 35th-minute strike from freshman Colt Arnold while graduate Renaldo Garcia was credited with the assist.

East Stroudsburg (4-9-1, 2-5) responded with a goal in the 40th minute and the equalizer in the 74th minute.

Furfaro scored the game-winner in the 99th minute, just 1:22 before the end of the first overtime. It is his first career golden goal and third career game winner (second this season).

The Raiders held a 20-14 advantage in shots and a 9-8 edge in corner kicks.

Roy and fellow senior Josh Gannon recorded five shots on goal apiece while sophomore goalkeeper Evan Raimist made five saves.

The Raiders return to action Wednesday when they travel to Lock Haven to take on the Bald Eagles from Hubert Jack Stadium.
