Shippensburg University volleyball player
Lauren Murphy has received an NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award after a national committee selected her on the basis of academic performance, athletic achievement and involvement in campus and community activities.
The Division II Degree-Completion Award program helps student-athletes who have exhausted their athletic eligibility with tuition to complete their undergraduate degree.
This fall, Murphy will be completing her teaching practicum toward her degree in mid-level/elementary education for grades 4-8 and a focus in science and language arts.
Murphy is the latest in a line of successful SU student-athletes who have been recognized and assisted by the NCAA, including
Riley Bowen (Fall 2011),
Sheila Wasser (Fall 2010),
Mark Rossi (Fall 2010) and
Mandi Foltz (Fall 2009).
Murphy completed her volleyball eligibility last November as Shippensburg competed in the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in school history. She earned All-PSAC Eastern Division Second Team honors as a senior for her outstanding defensive work as SU's libero.
She finished her career ranked fourth in school history for career digs (1,497) and was an integral part of a senior class that won 77 matches in four years.
