INDIANAPOLIS — Shippensburg senior swimmer Mandi Foltz was recognized with an NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award after a national committee selected her on the basis of academic performance, athletic achievement and involvement in campus and community activities.

Foltz, an elementary education major, completed her swimming career this past winter as a leader on the Lady Raider squad. During her tenure at Shippensburg, Foltz represented the university on three occasions at NCAA Division II national championships.

Most recently, Foltz swam as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay that earned All-American status at the 2009 National Championships in Houston. As a freshman and a sophomore, Foltz was a member of 10 honorable mention All-American relay teams at nationals.

Beyond the pool, Foltz served as the treasurer of Shippensburg's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and helped plan charitable events on campus. She is the second women's swimmer recently honored by the NCAA, as fellow senior Theresa Simcic was honored with a postgraduate scholarship in April.

The Division II Degree-Completion Award program helps student-athletes who have exhausted their athletic eligibility with tuition to complete their undergraduate degree.
