SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's swimming team had its five seniors compete Friday night in their final collegiate home meet and saw one of them – Sean Minford – set a pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke. It was visiting Edinboro, however, who came away with a 110-95 victory inside Donald N. Miller Pool.

Shippensburg (1-5) honored Stew Conard, Mike Keefe, Eddie LaNoue, Minford and Eric Naylor in pre-match festivities. Minford aced the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.47 seconds and also won the 200-yard IM in 1:57.10.

“I had anticipated tight matchups in this dual meet, and sure enough that is what came about,” head coach Tim Verge '89 said after the meet. “It was tough to lose on Senior Night, but give Edinboro credit – after a long trip they came in and swam great. I think our seniors still had fun and it was exciting to see Sean (Minford) break a pool record in his last swim ever at home.”

LaNoue won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.31 seconds and took second place in the 100 freestyle. Naylor had a pair of second-place finishes, competing in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events. Keefe swam the opening leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay that capped off the night and was joined in the event by LaNoue, sophomore Tyler Robertson and Naylor.

Freshman Stefan Szilagyi finished second in the 100-yard butterfly while Robertson was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke. Both men joined Minford and junior Chris Bankert on the 200-yard medley relay that opened the meet.

Overall, SU had 10 times on Friday which satisfied the PSAC qualifying standard.

“I love the men's attitude,” Verge said. “Our efforts have been great, and we'll be ready to go at the conference meet.”

Shippensburg will continue training for the PSAC Championships, which are four weeks away. SU will also compete February 2 in the Bucknell Invitational.
