Shippensburg Men's Swimming Opens Season With 184-76 Loss At West Chester

Hagerich wins 1,000-yard freestyle; 200 freestyle relay earns win

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Shippensburg University men's swim team opened its 2008-09 season on Saturday afternoon at West Chester and received strong performances from junior Drew Hagerich and the 200 freestyle relay team. The Golden Rams won the meet by a score of 184-76.

Hagerich won the 1,000-yard freestyle over Max Bernardes by nearly 10 seconds, completing his swim in 10:11.91. The 200 freestyle relay squad of junior Nate Ryan, sophomore Tim Smullen, freshman Shawn Robbins and sophomore Alan Snyder won the event in 1:29.93.

Ryan finished the 50 freestyle in 22.3 seconds for third place, while freshman Richard Deley swam the 200 free in 1:52.09. Freshman Tyler Prete completed the 50-yard breaststroke in 29.13 while freshman Joe Keefe completed the 100-yard backstroke in 58.15 seconds.

Shippensburg returns to action on October 18 at Canisius.
