Swimming Adds to Recruiting Class With Additional Signings for 2017-18

SU announces five new signees, adding to five that were announced in January

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Head men's and women's swimming coach Tim Verge '89 has announced the recruitment of six additional student-athletes who will join the Shippensburg University swimming teams beginning this fall.
 
This new group joins the five early signees that announced their commitments to Shippensburg in January (Read about January signees HERE).

About Deemer: Earned four varsity letters in swimming for the Golden Tornado under head coach Dave Bocci…thrived in butterfly and freestyle events, including qualifying for the PIAA State Championships in the 100-yard butterfly as a senior with a PR of 51.80 seconds…named Team MVP as a sophomore and as a senior...graduated as a member of the National Honor Society with a 4.31 GPA…also participated in track & field…competed in club swimming with Lake Erie Silver Dolphins under Bocci…also posted PRs of 48.34 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and 1:58.72 in the 200-yard butterfly.
 
Verge on Deemer: "So very excited that Joey chose SHIP. We recruited his brother a few years ago. A tremendous family. Joey really improved this year and is on a nice pathway for the future. He will be a PSAC scorer for us. His coach speaks so highly of him and his commitment. I know his high school coach Dave Bocci very well so I know that Joey knows how to work hard. Our Grove College of Business impressed him and we had many great discussions about what we can do for his future. Joey will be a tremendous asset to SHIP and our program."

About Hartley: Competed as a varsity swimmer for the Redskins under head coach Brian Suter…qualified for the PIAA District 1 Championships in the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relays as a senior and contributed to school records in both events…graduated as a four-year honor roll student…also participated in cross country…competed in club swimming with CORE under coach Jason Clark…posted PRs of 23.53 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and 51.30 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.
 
Verge on Hartley: "Josh trained under former SHIP swimmer Brian Suter. Coach Suter really spoke highly of him and the progress he has made. He is a bit of a late bloomer and will really keep getting faster we believe with the strength work we do as well as the increase in workout level. I think he is just starting to scratch the surface of what he can do."

About Langan: Totaled three varsity letters for the Gaels, thriving in sprint and mid-distance freestyle swimming under coach Pat Underwood…recognized as Team MVP as a junior and senior…named to the honor roll in 15 of his 16 quarters in high school…competed at the club level with Retriever Aquatic Club under coach Elyse Gibson Clegg…also played water polo…posted PRs of 22.12 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, 48.60 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle, 1:45.28 in the 200-yard freestyle, 4:51.71 in the 500-yard freestyle, and 4:22.88 in the 400-yard individual medley.
 
About Langan: Full name is Emmett Rathbun Langan…is the son of Michael Langan and Colleen Rathbun…plans to major in history…has a sister, Clara.
 
Verge on Langan: "I was just thrilled when we got this late call from Emmett. He is someone who visited in the fall and we really wanted him to join us. His range is so impressive and he has a lot of potential to improve. He originally committed to another school but had a change of heart and decided SHIP is really where he felt the most comfortable. I am really so excited that we had an environment he thought would be best for his future. Emmett is definitely someone who can help us at the conference meet. This is a wonderful young man who will being a lot to SHIP and our team."

About Gollub: Thrived as a sprint freestyle swimmer for the Mustangs under head coach Brady Stauffer '91, a six-time National Champion at Shippensburg…honored four times as a Central-Penn League All Star…recognized with all-conference accolades…graduated as an honor-roll student and a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society…also participated in water polo…posted PRs of 24.83 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, 53.58 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and 1:58.54 in the 200-yard freestyle.
 
Verge on Gollub: "Neena was a teammate of Gabbie Johnson in high school so we know she comes from a program that works hard. Her high school coach is Brady Stauffer, who was a national champ at SHIP, and he raves about her willingness to do whatever it takes for team success. She really demonstrated her versatility this year and has wonderful, pure speed. A TERRIFIC relay swimmer!!! Neena loves to compete. She has a wonderful academic record too which will fit in very well with our group. She will give us some scoring points in the sprints at PSAC for sure."

About Reott: Totaled four varsity letters for the Rockets under head coach Brian Belowich…finished as a four-time district qualifier and a three-time state qualifier, exceling in both the backstroke and the butterfly…received All-State Honorable Mention in the 100-yard backstroke as a junior and senior…earned All-Region First Team honors in the 100-yard backstroke and All-Region Second Team honors in the 100-yard butterfly as a senior…graduated as the valedictorian of her class with a 4.4 grade-point average on the High Honor Roll…posted PRs of 59.19 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke and 1:00.08 in the 100-yard butterfly.
 
Verge on Reott: "We sort of got going in recruiting with Mari a bit later in the process but she really took to SHIP as she learned more and more. She was the valedictorian of her class and is a phenomenal student who will enhance Shippensburg University in many ways. She has made some great strides in her swimming and her times have her scoring for us at PSAC. Mari also has wonderful versatility. She is highly intelligent and confident and those attributes will really help her to be successful for us at SHIP. We are just THRILLED that she chose us to help her prepare for her future."
