The Shippensburg University women's swimming team began the weekend with several strong sprint freestyle performances Friday in the first of three timed finals sessions at the Gettysburg Invitational.
 
Shippensburg posted a total of four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times in the 50-yard freestyle.
 
Michelle Kubiak finished 14th overall in the 50 free with a PR of 25.23 seconds, shaving .28 seconds off her previous lifetime best.
 
Caroline Schweigert tied Kubiak for 14th place (25.23) and bettered her PR by nearly a half second (.43), a huge improvement for such a fast race.
 
Elyse Arnold was the third Raider to achieve a PSAC cut in the event, posting a new season-best time of 25.27 (16th place).
 
Hannah Hudson returned to action for the first time since the October tri-meet at Bloomsburg and rounded out the PSAC-qualifying times by swimming 25.53 seconds (18th place).
 
Hudson also led off SU's top-scoring 200 free and 400 medley relays, helping the Raiders to fifth-place finishes in both events.
 
Hudson, Zoë Midura, Ann Secord and Ella Nick combined for a time of 1:40.79 in the 200 free relay, while Hudson, Charlee Shaw, Bria Burkholder and Olivia Carver swam the 400 medley relay in 4:02.35.
 
Carver also placed fifth in the 500 yard freestyle Friday, posting a PSAC-qualifying time of 5:11.37.
 
The Raiders continue competition at the Gettysburg Invitational Saturday with timed finals sessions beginning at 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
