The Shippensburg University women's swimming team began its three-day weekend at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Friday with competition in three individual events and two relays at the McGinness Pool inside the Kunkel Aquatic Center.
 
SU tapered for the meet in an effort to produce its fastest times yet this season. The Raiders compiled nine individual performances that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships qualifying standards.
 
Olivia Carver paced Shippensburg in the 500-yard freestyle and had the team's highest place-finish of the day. Carver was sixth with a finals time of 5:13.52 after swimming 5:11.29 in morning prelims.
 
Makennah Fickett was SU's top finisher in the 200-yard individual medley with a 20th-place time of 2:13.71. Fickett, Michelle Kubiak (2:15.92), Jenna Ober (2:17.85) and Charlee Shaw (2:18.11) earned PSAC cuts in the event.
 
Ella Nick was the third Raider who swam in an evening final. Nick swam 24.99 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle finals after swimming 24.90 seconds in prelims. She also delivered a split of 24.77 seconds on the opening leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay.
 
Also earning PSAC cuts in the open 50-yard freestyle were Bria Burkholder (25.30), Elyse Arnold (25.41) and Zoë Midura (25.43). Edit: Ann Secord (25.34) and Emma Gerlinski (25.55) also achieved PSAC cuts with their leadoff legs on SU's 'B' and 'C' 200-yard freestyle relays.
