SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team received a big performance from its senior class en route to a 2-0 Senior Day triumph over East Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action Saturday at David See Field.
Seniors
Ryleigh Cook and
Kaitlyn DiCandilo found the back of the net in each half to propel Shippensburg (4-8-3, 2-8-3 PSAC East) to victory.
East Stroudsburg (5-8-3, 2-8-3) registered a 10-to-6 advantage in shots on goal, but could not beat SU goalkeeper
Kirstin Brown, who matched her season high with 10 saves and earned her third clean sheet of the season.
Cook tallied her first half goal via penalty kick in the 31st minute. The attacking midfielder started the sequence with a ferocious left-footed shot attempt that was pushed over the bar by the ESU goalie. A push in the back received by
Cailin Spelman on the ensuing corner kick resulted in the penalty, and Cook stepped up to the spot and picked out the bottom right corner to put SU in front.
DiCandilo's first goal of the 2025 season and third of her career came eight minutes into the second half.
Pressure from the Raiders in their attacking third caused an ESU turnover in a dangerous area. The ball fell to Cook, who immediately laid the ball off to teammate
Ashley Hughes on the wing. Hughes cut inside and slipped a low cross across the face of goal that was redirected by the left-sided midfielder into the top left corner.
The Raiders threatened for more, highlighted by a point blank save from ESU keeper Emmy Clarkson to deny senior
Sammy Lerario in the 66th minute.
Senior forward
Makayla Agosto also created several chances for the Raiders throughout the 90 minutes.
Clarkson finished with four saves for ESU.
Six SU seniors: Agosto, Cook, DiCandilo, Lerario, defender
Claudia Hudson and midfielder
Maegan Quinn were recognized prior to the match as part of Senior Day Saturday.
The Raiders wrap up their 2025 season with a trip to Kutztown Wednesday at 3 p.m.
