RECAP: Women’s Soccer drops season finale at Kutztown, 3-1

SU’s Cailin Spelman opened the scoring with a goal in the second minute

The Shippensburg University women's soccer team could not maintain an early lead in its season finale as it fell to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opponent Kutztown in an Eastern Division matchup Wednesday afternoon at Keystone Field, 3-1.

Shippensburg (4-9-3, 2-9-3 PSAC East) opened the scoring just 1:43 into the match, only for Kutztown (11-4-1, 8-4-1) to respond with three goals in the second half.

The opening goal came on an SU corner kick, with Cailin Spelman heading home a Kaitlyn DiCandilo cross at the back post.

Ryleigh Cook nearly doubled the Raider lead inside the final five minutes of the first half, whipping a dangerous left-footed shot attempt from the edge of the eighteen that forced KU goalkeeper Morgan O'Donnell into a tremendous diving save.

Kutztown equalized on a goal from Corinne Morgan in the 63rd minute. A cross from Caroline McDonald found Morgan in the circle with her back to the SU goal. An exquisite turn onto her right foot created enough space for Morgan to unleash an unstoppable strike past the SU keeper for her seventh tally of the season.

The Golden Bears took the lead just nine minutes later via a corner kick. The SU defense cleared the initial delivery, but a second ball in caromed off a Shippensburg head to a wide-open Regan Curabba, who calmly slotted home the game-winner at the back post.

KU would add a third on a corner kick goal by Charlotte Rauch in the 80th minute.

SU goalkeeper Kirstin Brown finished with four saves, while O'Donnell totaled three stops for the Golden Bears.

Shippensburg's 2025 season was highlighted by its strength at home. The club sported a 4-4-1 record at David See Field, its most wins on home turf since 2022.
