SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- The Shippensburg University tennis team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match to the visiting West Chester Golden Rams Tuesday afternoon at Robb Sports Complex, 7-0.
Shippensburg (3-12, 1-2 PSAC) had some close calls, but were unable to take a set against the visiting Golden Rams (4-7, 2-0).
Senior
Brighid Cantwell won a total of nine games, losing a tight battle to WCU's Rachel Haupt in No. 6 singles: 7-5, 6-4.
Freshman
Rachel Gallagher won four games in No. 4 singles. Junior
Brooklynn Rupert took three games at No. 2 singles, and sophomore
Corinne Markovich won three in No. 1 singles competition.
In doubles, Shippensburg's No. 3 squad – Cantwell and Gallagher – won a pair of games. The No. 2 doubles duo of junior
Kendall Winters and freshman
Brinley Orris took one game against their WCU counterparts.
The Raiders return to action with a home match against Salem University Saturday at 1 p.m.
