SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team opened its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division schedule on Friday with a competitive clash versus Kutztown, but the visiting Golden Bears emerged with a 5-2 victory on a frigid, windy, grey day at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (2-11, 0-1 PSAC East) won No. 4 singles and No. 6 singles. Freshman
Rachel Gallagher was victorious in three sets at No. 4, squeaking out a 10-8 third-set tiebreaker after winning the first set 6-1 and dropping the second set 2-6.

Brighid Cantwell won No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Freshman
Brinley Orris won five total games at No. 5 singles, while junior
Kendall Winters won four games in the second set of her match at No. 3 singles.

Gallagher and Cantwell also teamed up for a win at No. 3 doubles, 6-4, but Kutztown (5-3, 2-0) claimed the doubles point with a 6-2 victory in the top flight and a 6-1 victory in the second flight.

SU travels to East Stroudsburg tomorrow for a 1 p.m. clash with the Warriors.
