SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team went down to the wire against Lock Haven on Saturday but came up just short, dropping a 4-3 decision to the Bald Eagles in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup on Senior Day at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (3-15, 1-4 PSAC East) celebrated Brighid Cantwell, the team's lone senior, in a pre-match ceremony. Cantwell and sophomore Corinne Markovich battled to the end in their respective matches at No. 6 and No. 1 singles respectively, but the visitors claimed wins to take the match.

Cantwell fell 4-6, 6-7 to Alaina Marchioni, while Markovich dropped a 6-3, 2-6, 8-10 clash with Mia Shuler. Markovich, who was withheld from singles, delivered a gutsy performance as she battled through a lingering injury in her match.

Junior Kendall Winters, freshman Rachel Gallagher and freshman Brinley Orris won at No. 3 through No. 5 singles respectively. Winters won 6-4, 6-3 over Mary Hillman. Gallagher had a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win over Christy McLean. Orris battled to a 6-3, 6-4 win over Olivia Sharp.

Lock Haven (8-3, 2-3), coming off a home victory yesterday over East Stroudsburg, won all three doubles flights. The closest match was at No. 2, where Winters and Orris fell 5-7. The Bald Eagles also got a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles by Olivia Anastos over junior Brooklynn Rupert.

Shippensburg will host its final home match of the season at 3 p.m. Wednesday vs. Millersville.
