The Shippensburg University women's tennis team vanquished the Knights of SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday night, posting a 5-2 victory in action under the lights at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.

Shippensburg (2-7) won four of the six singles flights and claimed doubles 2-1 en route to the triumph. Senior
Brighid Cantwell won her third match of the week at No. 6 singles, claiming a 7-5, 6-2 win over Elena DeRiso. First-year
Brinley Orris picked up her second collegiate victory with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.

Corinne Markovich won her second collegiate match with a courageous comeback at No. 1 singles. Despite a 6-2 setback in the first set, Markovich was undaunted and rallied for a 6-3 win in the second set to force a tiebreak. In the race to 10 points, Markovich halved Natalie Pipes to achieve the victory.

Rachel Gallagher picked up her second collegiate victory and her first at No. 4 singles, achieving a key break in each set to defeat Abigail Rockwood 6-4, 6-4.

SUNY Geneseo (7-4) battled the Raiders from the outset, as the doubles point was hotly contested. Markovich and junior
Brooklynn Rupert achieved a key break point and won at No. 1 doubles, 6-4.

Kendall Winters won four games at No. 2 doubles, but the Knight tandem of Alex Galle and Talia Wutz achieved the win. At No. 3 doubles, Cantwell and Gallagher won 7-5, giving SU two doubles matches to Geneseo's one for the doubles points.

Geneseo got singles victory from Galle at No. 2 (6-3, 6-0) and Rory Tobin at No. 3 (6-3, 6-0).

The victory is the first for head coach
Dylan Curtis, who assumed the reins of the program earlier this winter.

SU will play twice Thursday, first against St. Catherine at 11 a.m. at the USTA Complex and again at 6:30 p.m. against Texas-Tyler.
