The Shippensburg University baseball team played its second nine-inning game in as many days on Tuesday, this time dropping a 13-12 decision at Wilmington (Del.) at Wilson Field.
Shippensburg (6-15) and Wilmington (7-2) were locked in a high-scoring game. After falling behind early 5-2, the Raiders scored six consecutive runs, with back-to-back three-run innings in the fifth and sixth. The 8-5 lead wouldn't last for long, however, as the Wildcats scored six runs in the seventh inning to retake the lead at 11-9.
Entering the ninth inning down 13-9, SU got some clutch hits to bring the deficit down to one run, but the Raiders were unable to complete the comeback. Shippensburg's 12 runs are the most runs it has scored in a game this season.
Sophomore
Jafari Williams went 4-for-5 at the plate with a leadoff home run in the third inning and a leadoff triple in the fifth inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Williams threw out a runner at home.
Junior
Justin Darden went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run and four RBIs. Graduate
JuJu Cason had a run scored and an RBI double in the ninth inning.
Lake Lloyd had two hits and a stolen base; graduate
Matt Shilling walked three times, had two runs scored and a sacrifice fly.
Sophomore
Ethan Miller pitched four innings in relief with one strikeout and two earned runs. Five Raiders pitched in the game.
Wilmington's Matt Warrington went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a walk and one run scored. Nic Hertzfeld went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Nick Nocella had two RBIs, a hit, a walk and a run scored.
Shippensburg is scheduled to play at 2 p.m. Friday at East Stroudsburg.
