SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University volleyball team secured another conference win on Friday night with a 3-1 victory over Kutztown at Heiges Field House. Set scores were 25-19, 25-23, 15-25, and 25-18.

Shippensburg (11-13, 4-5 PSAC) had two players with double-doubles. Reigning Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Athlete of the Week
Emily Gardner posted her eight double-double this season with 14 kills, 18 digs and three blocks. Gardner hit an efficient .364 from the floor and committed only two errors. Freshman
Kat Negron had her sixth double-double this season with 11 kills and 15 digs, the latter of which tied a career high. Â

Reigning PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week
Madison Anderson posted six kills and four block assists. Junior
Oyinda Agbale contributed nine kills – including five in the fourth set – and three blocks. Junior
Rachel Verhoef had eight kills and five block assists.

Freshmen
Lily Letchworth and
Sabrina Sheppard each worked at setter on the night; Letchworth had 24 assists and Sheppard had 22 assists. Redshirt-sophomore
Alex Leitner led the Raiders with a career-high 32 digs.

Kutztown (7-15, 2-7 PSAC) had three players with double-digit kills. The Raiders hit .209 compared to .174 for the Golden Bears. KU served seven aces to SU's five, including three straight by Sadie Doss to end the third set.
The Raiders opened the first set winning the first four points. The set was tied at 9-9 and each team went on a four-point run. Back-to-back kills by Negron secured the first set for SU.

In the second set it was back and forth. The Raiders went on a 5-2 run at 14-14 only for the Golden Bears to lead the set at 23-22. A crucial dump kill from Letchworth tied tie the score, 23-23 and kills from Verhoef and Gardner were enough to close the frame and make it 2-0 for SU. Â

The Golden Bears were not done, however, and at 13-13 in the third set, KU went on an 8-1 run. The Golden Bears only committed one error in the third set and took the frame. Â

The Raiders came back strong in the fourth set, winning the first five points. At 6-6, Gardner went on a six-point service run to give the Raiders the lead. SU led by as many as 10 points in the final set.
Shippensburg is back in action at 1 p.m. Saturday against East Stroudsburg at Heiges Field House. The Warriors are coming off a straight-set victory at Shepherd on Friday night.
