SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University baseball team had its home opener Saturday and split a doubleheader with Le Moyne amidst frigid conditions at Fairchild Field, winning Game 1 by a 9-0 score before dropping the nightcap, 12-9.
Â
Shippensburg (5-7) cranked out 29 hits in the doubleheader, but Le Moyne (6-4) used a four-run second inning and a seven-run fourth inning in Game 2 to gain enough of a lead to hold off the Raiders and record a split.
Â
Senior
Kyle Lysy threw six shutout innings in Game 1, scattering six singles and walking one while striking out six to improve to 2-2 on the season. Lysy has thrown 13 shutout innings and struck out 13 spanning his last two starts.

Zack Zoller was the offensive star of the day for the Raiders, going 6-for-9 at the plate with five extra-base hits and four RBIs. Zoller was 4-for-4 with a single-game school record of four doubles in Game 1. Thirteen players have hit three doubles in a game, with the most recent being Mike Douglas back in 2013.
Â

Â
Freshman

Â
Senior
Jack Jenkens had a strong relief appearance in Game 2, scattering a run on two hits in 3.1 innings while striking out two. It was the longest outing for Jenkens since he went 3.2 innings in a mid-week start against IUP on Apr. 25, 2018.
Â
Weather conditions were sub-optimal, with a steady wind and frequent snow flurries the signature of a 30-degree afternoon. At one point during Game 2, the cows that graze in the field behind the diamond started running back to their barn during a snow squall. Play continued.
Â
Shippensburg and Le Moyne will play a nine-inning game at 1 p.m. Sunday at Fairchild Field.
