RECAP: Softball Drops Pair of Divisional Games at ESU, 7-3 and 5-3

Raiders finish with 18 hits but strand 19 runners against the Warriors

The Shippensburg University softball team dropped both ends of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader at East Stroudsburg on Wednesday, falling to the Warriors by scores of 7-3 and 5-3 from Vigon International Field.
 
Shippensburg (19-17, 4-4 PSAC East) totaled 18 hits on the day, but stranded 19 runners in the doubleheader (eight in Game 1, 11 in Game 2). Nine Raiders had at least one hit, including five who finished with multiple hits.
 
East Stroudsburg (21-17, 4-4) was bolstered by four home runs, including three in Game 1, and slugged seven extra-base hits in the doubleheader. The Warriors have now won five straight meetings against the Raiders in games played in Monroe County.
 
Freshman Lacey Hunter went 3-for-3 in Game 1 and finished the day with four hits. Junior Kayla Bonawitz doubled in each game; Bonawitz and sophomore Courtney Coy each totaled three hits.
 
Junior Meghan Klee had two hits, two RBIs and a walk. Klee has now reached base in a season-long eight consecutive games. Freshman Hannah Marsteller had two hits and an RBI, and freshman Morgan Fetter hit an RBI-triple.
 
Freshman Tressa Kagarise allowed five runs (one earned) in 3.2 innings of Game 2. In the decisive four-run fourth inning of Game 2, the Warriors delivered a two-run homer and two-run double with two outs. Kagarise allowed seven hits and struck out five.
 
Senior Taryn Wilson allowed six runs in four innings of Game 1, yielding three walks and five hits while striking out five. Freshman Hannah Johnson worked in relief in both games, allowing just one run over 4.1 innings and striking out two. Johnson has allowed just three earned runs over her last 10.2 innings pitched.
