SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University softball team held its 2019 home opener on Sunday and posted a non-conference sweep of Holy Family by scores of 8-0 (six innings) and 8-1 on a cool, breezy and sunny afternoon at Robb Field.

Shippensburg (11-7) recorded 21 hits over the doubleheader's two games, including seven that went for extra bases. SU got home runs from junior
Kendall Geis and sophomore
Courtney Coy – it was the second home run of Geis's career, and the third of the season (and career) for Coy.

Coy went 6-for-9 in the doubleheader with a two-run home run, two doubles, five RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Six Raiders had multiple hits, including Geis adding a double and a single in addition to her round-tripper. Freshman
Morgan DeFeo was 3-for-7 with three RBIs, a walk and four runs scored.

Grace Palmieri reached base four times, going 2-for-5 with a double, four RBIs, a walk and hit-by-pitch. Junior
Meghan Klee had a sacrifice fly and reached base three times. Freshman
Hannah Marsteller had two hits and a walk.

Lacey Hunter drew three walks, stole three bases and scored three runs in addition to several strong defensive plays in right field early in Game 1.

Tressa Kagarise threw a one-hitter in the opener, allowing a double and walking two while striking out six in six innings. Senior
Taryn Wilson scattered a run on four hits in Game 2, striking out nine.
