SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's tennis team notched its first victory of the season Saturday, posting a 6-1 victory over Holy Family on a cold and breezy day at the Robb Sports Complex Tennis Courts.

Shippensburg won both of the contested doubles flights and took the third via forfeit to claim the match point for doubles. In singles, the Raiders won four of the five flights and took the sixth via forfeit en route to the victory.

"We took what we learned on Spring Break and applied it today," head coach
Lindsey Tennis said of the Raiders. "They competed until the end of each match, fighting down each point and staying consistent and competitive."

Kaylin Gallagher and freshman
Kayla Tryanski teamed up for a 6-3 victory at No. 1. Seniors
Gabbie Binder and
Megan Moorhead partnered for a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles.

In singles, Moorhead swept her opponent at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Gallagher claimed a close contest at No. 1 singles by a 6-3, 6-4 score. Tryanski went to a tiebreaker at No. 3 singles in which she persevered, 10-6. She dropped the first set 6-3, but came back to win the second set, 6-2, to force the decisive tiebreak.

Freshman
Maria Drake notched a victory at No. 5 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-2. In No. 2 singles, Binder won seven games in her match.

"I am very proud of how we played as individuals and a team today," Tennis said. "The dedication and hard work really showed."
