The Shippensburg University wrestling team posted a 3-1 record in its return to action Saturday, defeating SUNY Cortland (19-18), Penn College of Technology (27-12) and Camden County College (51-0) at the 2019 North-South Duals hosted by Ursinus College.
 
Junior Derek Berberick won three times Saturday, including two pins. The most riveting win of the day was a victory by fall with a minute remaining against SUNY Cortland that gave the Raiders a comeback victory – SU was down by five points against the Red Dragons entering the heavyweight match.
 
Shippensburg (3-2) had its only loss of the day in the nightcap, falling 24-17 to Muhlenberg. Berberick scored a victory by fall with 45 seconds remaining as one of four Raider victors against the Mules.
 
Freshman Drake Brenize had a signature day at 157 pounds, going undefeated with a 3-0 record. Brenize scored a pivotal 11-1 major decision against Cortland, and posted a 7-3 decision against Muhlenberg.
 
Redshirt-junior Adam Martz scored three wins on the day at 165 pounds – including pins Penn Tech and Camden County – and an 8-2 decision against Cortland.
 
Freshman Matt Milbrand notched two wins on the day wrestling up to 149 pounds, including a 4-2 decision against Cortland's Jeremy Pond that got the Raiders on the board against the Red Dragons. Milbrand also scored a victory by fall at 141 pounds against Penn Tech.
 
Freshman Colton Babcock scored a 6-4 decision at 149 pounds against Penn Tech's Jesse Walker and wrestled up for a pin at 157 pounds against Camden County. Junior Ryan Narber scored a 12-3 major decision at 184 pounds against Muhlenberg.
 
At 133 pounds, freshman Jake Downing had two wins on the day, closing with an 11-1 major decision against Muhlenberg's Josh Hickey. Freshman Julius Starkey scored a 7-6 decision against Camden County.
 
At 174 pounds, redshirt-freshman Austin Klucker notched an 8-2 decision against Cortland, while redshirt-junior Abner Thompson scored a victory by fall against Camden County.
 
Saturday marked Shippensburg's first competition since the PSAC Championships on December 8.
