RECAP: Volleyball Makes It Seven Straight, Sweeping WLU and UC

SU improves to 8-2 in advance of a tough Saturday slate

The Shippensburg University volleyball team extended its winning streak to seven straight matches on Friday with a pair of sweeps at West Liberty University, defeating the host Hilltoppers (25-22, 25-14, 25-23) before dispatching Charleston (25-23, 25-14, 25-15) at the PSAC/Mountain East Crossover from the ASRC.
 
Shippensburg (8-2) hit .244 as a team with 91 kills while limiting the opposition to a .109 hitting percentage on the day. The Raiders totaled 14 blocks and served 10 aces while receiving 17 or more kills from four different players.
 
Junior Samantha Webber posted an exemplary .444 hitting percentage (26-4-50) on the day and posting six blocks. Webber had 13 kills in each match, but was especially noteworthy in the nightcap as she did not commit an error in 23 attempts (.565 hitting percentage).
 
Junior Kendall Johnson had 21 kills, eight blocks and hit .321 overall. She hit .290 (10-1-31) with three block assists against West Liberty before swinging .364 (11-3-22) with five total blocks against Charleston.
 
Senior Morgan DeFloria moved into fifth in school history for career kills after tallying 17 on the day. DeFloria also had 27 digs, notching a double-double (10-18) against West Liberty. Through 114 career matches, DeFloria has totaled 1,228 career kills (2.97 per set).
 
Junior Gabriella Johnson had one of her highest hitting rates of the season, swinging .158 with 17 kills and 26 digs on Friday. Gabriella Johnson hit .194 (9-3-31) with 15 digs against the Hilltoppers.
 
Sophomore Emily Hangen totaled 74 assists, 19 digs and three aces, while junior libero Megan Forstburg had a team-high 34 digs overall. Sophomore Alana Pergine contributed seven kills, four blocks and four digs over the two matches.
